I took part in an underwater video survey of this area for the Gozo Government Dwejra Project in 2006, and have been keeping a close eye on the erosion of the rock structure since.

So it came as no surprise that The Times of Malta reported on 17th April that there had been a recent rock fall on the left hand side of the Azure Window at Dwejra on Gozo, Malta in the previous few days. I had specifically shot the February photo to ensure that I had a recent high quality shot of the potential rock fall, and went back out in to reshoot yesterday afternoon even though the weather conditions were not ideal.

I’ve included a side by side comparison of the images below. Now all we need is a break in the current North Westerly winds to get a dive in under the arch to see what effect the rock fall has had underwater. I suspect that the area under the arch is now a lot shallower which will make the fad for jumping from the arch even more dangerous.
